Joint Director of Health Services Praises Boat Clinic Initiative in Majuli
The Joint Director of Health Services, Majuli district, Dr. Kishore Kumar Kaman, visited a health check-up camp organized by the Boat Clinic on April 9, 2024, at Vekeli Chapori. He commended the initiative for its crucial role in delivering healthcare services to remote and hard-to-reach communities.
“The Boat Clinic plays a crucial role in delivering healthcare services to remote communities and hard-to-reach areas. These floating clinics are equipped with essential medical facilities, including doctors’ rooms, laboratories, and pharmacies, enabling them to provide comprehensive healthcare services to populations often isolated by geographical challenges and frequent floods,” Dr. Kaman wrote after his visit.
Dr. Kaman was accompanied by a team of district officials, including Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) Coordinator Mitrajyoti Konwar, Social Welfare Department Supervisor Ms. Pompi Dutta, and the Boat Clinic’s medical team.
Highlighting the range of services, Dr. Kaman added, “The Boat Clinic offers general health check-ups, immunizations, ante-natal and post-natal care, health education, and awareness initiatives. This effort has significantly improved healthcare access for thousands of residents on these difficult-to-reach islands, reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.”
During the camp, a total of 89 patients availed healthcare services, including 10 antenatal check-ups. The Joint Director also visited the local school and anganwadi centre during his trip.
