Conference on North East at Jamia Millia Islamia
An International Conference on ‘‘Reimagining India’s North East: Narratives, Networks and Negotiations” is scheduled on February 4-6 at Jamia Millia Islamia university, New Delhi. Prominent scholars namely Prof.Willem van Schendel of the University of Amsterdam, Prof. Imtiaz Ahmed of the University of Dhaka, Dr. Melanie Vandenhelksen of the University of Vienna, Dr Meenaxi Barkataki-Ruscheweyh and Dr. Rakhee Kalita will take part in the event.
Prof Ramachandra Guha, renowned historian, author and columnist, will be in conversation with Prof. Mahesh Rangajaran, Director of the Nehru Memorial Library, Sanjoy Hazarika and Prof. Imtiaz Ahmed at the closing event. There is also a special cultural evening to showcase some of the contemporary and traditional music and performances from the NER.
The event promises to be an energetic time with a mix of scholars and figures of international repute, social scientists, and others who have worked extensively on the North-East of India and its neighbourhood. The focus remains the cross-section of disciplines, between networks, narratives and negotiations in this critical, challenging, complex and fascinating region.
The event is being organised by Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research, Jamia Millia Islamia university.
