New Paper by Bob Calo: Disengaged: Elite Media in a Vernacular Nation
The role of media in influencing readers and viewers has been rarely under as much stress as these days following the closure of The News of the World, Britain largest selling newspaper, after its editors and reporters were involved in a phone and email hacking scam where they bribed police, misused a murdered girl’s cell phone and accessed private information about prominent people. Can that stain, which reflects on journalists and media worldwide and especially in South Asia, where flawed means have been used to ‘get’ information and ‘scoops’, be erased and trust regained? This paper by the Cato institute in Washington reflects on it.
